End of the Turf Season

On the afternoon of the 31st October the team were busy at the sales with some horses sadly leaving (Agent of Fortune, Catalogue and Hidden Dream) and some exciting new yearlings arriving. The evening saw Drop Kick Murphi (Murphi) start only his second race of the season at Kempton. Whilst pawing the ground in anticipation he missed the break and was last out of the stalls. The rest broke quickly, Murphi struggling to stay with them, and at one stage looked completely outpaced. Still out the back as the rest struck for home it looked all over for Murphi but […]

A Busy Week at Yarmouth and Kempton

This week brought seven runners in just over twenty four hours with five at Yarmouth on Tuesday afternoon followed by two at Kempton on Wednesday evening. First up at Yarmouth saw Hidden Dream and Percy Toplis go in the 4:00. Hidden Dream showed up well until tiring a little over the closing stages to finish in seventh place. Percy didn’t get in to it at all. Perhaps the sticky, heavy going was not in their favour also. Two more went in the 4:30. Kraka and the returning Drop Kick Murphi after his lay off. Kraka became a bit restless in […]

BUSY BUSY TIME at Tattersalls Sales

Last Saturday saw one of the busiest visits to a Tattersalls sales day that can be remembered, as by close of business Christine was returning to College Farm with no less than 6 yearlings from the Book 4 catalogue. Quick off the mark was Paul Eggett, who liked the fourth lot of the morning and snapped up a big Chestnut Colt by Helmet out of winning mare Shamara. With a full brother already being a multiple winner and currently rated in the 90’s as a 4 year old, we are hoping that a shrewd piece of business was concluded by […]

Too Heavy!

Owner Trevor Milner reports from Nottingham. Queen Of Burgundy ran at Nottingham on Wednesday 2nd October. Unfortunately the ground was dire and in hindsight we shouldn’t have run. Joey Haynes was under instructions that if she wasn’t acting on the ground to bring her home safe. All though very well drawn uncharacteristically QB was last out of the stalls and after the first furlong Joey reported she wasn’t happy on the ground so as per instructions he brought her home safe and sound in last place. With that we have decided to let her down for her winter break. Hopefully […]

September Update

Here’s an update on our runners throughout September. Kates Star Having had her first two starts of her career at Chelmsford (4th Sept) and Yarmouth 18th Sept) both over 7 furlongs, the reports on the races are similar, broke well on both occasions and kept up a steady pace until 3F out where she lost her position and dropped out. She was eased down on both occasions by the jockeys. A young horse in both age and experience so plenty of time will be given to her. Penarth Pier Has visited Brighton over 6 furlongs (9th Sept) and Chelmsford over […]

Tuesday delight at the seaside.

The day saw Percy Toplis deliver what is becoming his trademark late challenge to move from the back of the field to a closing 3rd and going down by a head and a short head to complete another exciting trip to the seaside. Eoin Walsh was very happy with Percy reporting that it took a bit of effort to get Percy racing but from 3F out both horse and jockey connected to make their serious effort for the line. Christine is looking to step Percy up to a mile and a half for his next run. Forgotten Girl made her […]

Percy getting closer.

Thursday at Yarmouth proved to be a frustrating day for the stable – with the four entered runners being reduced to a single participant after Moment of Peace, Penarth Pier and Secret Treaties were all non runners from the card which left Percy Toplis to carry Christines pink colours in a 1m 2F handicap. After finishing 3rd in his last two races, Percy went off as one of the favoured horses at 7-1. Eion Walsh had Percy nicely placed in mid field until the 3f post when his effort was asked for, struggling to find room it did take a […]

Two thirds at Chelmsford.

A busy Saturday for the stable as four runners were sent to Essex for The Gentlemens Day at the county showground near Chelmsford and with Liam Keniry booked for all four rides, hopes were high that a positive day lay ahead, Queen of Burgundy (QB) was first into action and went off a 7/1 third favourite in a 6F race. Tracking the leaders throughout she was nicely placed to make her challenge entering the home straight but despite passing the leaders, she was unable to hold off the fast finishing Swiss Pride and eventual winner Thegreatestshowman. Another good performance from […]

So how are we doing?

Last Tuesday saw our last runner for the month of July, Agent of Fortune finish 3rd in a 1 mile Handicap race at Yarmouth. This brought to an end a busy month for the stable which had sent out 16 runners and although without a winner this month, four 2nd place and two 3rd place finishes had seen some exciting days at the races. Pride of place for July would go to Hidden Dream who went close(2nd twice ) at Yarmouth along with Secret Treaties who stepped forward to post a career best performance on 25th July, when finishing 2nd […]

Would History Repeat Itself?

This update complied by two of my owners – Trevor Milner and Andy Machin. Back in March 2005 we enjoyed a treble at Yarmouth. Kennington, Milady’s Pride and Shifty Night all passing the post first on that memorable day. On Thursday of this week we went to Yarmouth again with representatives in three races. Kraka in the first, Hidden Dream and Percy Toplis in the third and Secret Treaties in the last. Would history be repeated and another treble be on the cards? Alas not as Kraka was sixth in the opener. He held a good, prominent position the most […]
