Well, no sad news to report this time, thank goodness. The last of our 6 mares finally foaled on Saturday evening, midnight. A lovely healthy filly bringing our total to 3 girls and 2 boys. Coconut Shy has now been brought in to the maternity block and looking forward to her new arrival shortly. The weather has been so lovely they have all been enjoying the sunshine and warmth (mind you it has turned a tad chilly today).
After fun and games at Chelmsford City last week, if you happened to see on ATR, the following day we were rewarded by a good win from our Dan and a great ride by Mr Kirby, again. He actually made it look quite easy. Our next runner Des was disappointing, not really sure why so may change a few things with him next time out.
Its been a quiet week on the racing front but back in action tomorrow at our favourite haunt Wolverhampton. An exciting runner with our young Fergus having his first ever ride at the age of 16 in the Amateur Race. I have given him the ride on Give us a Belle who currently has a 100% strike rate in amateur races after his first ever win being a similar event at Windsor last year. Fergus has been coming to the yard for several years and we have seen him grow from a little boy into a tall young man and very good horseman who has been successful in the pony racing world. He is now venturing into the big wide world and it is a bit of a shame he has grown “too big” to be my apprentice. I am sure he will make a very successful jockey and is destined to go over jumps, the end of era with Mr McCoy, welcome Fergus Gregory! I notice tonight Give us a Belle was joint favourite for the race, no pressure Ferg!!
We also have our Queenie, (Baileys Pursuit) going in the 6.40, after her disastrous antics at Chelmsford. I am sure Adam (Beschizza) will be a bit more prepared for any unruly behaviour in the stalls this time, hopefully the addition of the hood will keep her a little calmer!! Considering how far she missed the break she ran ok last time when she finally exited the stalls !!
This week will also see a debut run for us from Born to Fly at Brighton. I really like this filly, albeit she is a little feisty!!. Seb Sanders will be on board and on her last visit to the track Seb managed to steer her to victory so here’s hoping we can have a repeat of that please. I bought her when we purchased Humour so now he has managed to oblige lets hope another success will follow with BTF.
Here’s looking foward to another good week
P.S. Here are a couple of photographs of Patience out with her filly by Libranno.
