Just when everything looked like it was going so well there is always something to bring us down. Sadly after a lengthy battle to save her in the early hours of Monday morning we lost our dear mare Dolly (Southwark Newsflash) and her colt foal by Sir Prancelot after serious complications. I am sorry to have to post such a sad blog. It was a sad end and despite all our efforts and that of a top veterinary surgeon from the Newmarket Equine Hospital we were unable to save them. RIP dear Dolly. She had always been a bit of a favourite of ours for her gentle nature ever since I bought her from the yearling sales at Newmarket many years ago, she went on to win for us and provided us with a winning daughter College Doll and a son in Arryzona who I have every faith will not let us down on the track when he gets the hang of things. I will now be having serious words with him to buck his idea up in his mothers memory! I must add this is the first time in over 40 years of breeding thoroughbreds I have ever lost a mare in foaling. They say if we live long enough we will see most things but that it not something I want to experience again.
However, with 4 healthy foals skipping round the paddock in the sunshine with 1 still to arrive, there is plenty to feel optimistic about, Harry (Arryzona) is due to run on Thursday so maybe he will brighten our day! We have 2 other runners at Chelmsford on that day,Satin Waters and Baileys Pursuit, with Danzoe and Des due to run on Friday, so lots to look forward to with the runners performing really well so far this year.
Hopefully the next post will be the arrival of our last foal for our College Farm Breeding Syndicate, from Patience, so aptly named, now well overdue and news of a winner or 2, maybe more!! 🙂
