Off the mark at last !

Well a lot has happened since my last post…… Our first winner of the year and our first foal, on the same day!

So pleased our Desmond (Happydoingnothing) finally got his head in front.  A great ride from Adam Beschizza and for once everything went according to plan, he was able to dominate and he won well.  Thank goodness, our first for Mr West in his colours, and I am sure our first of many to come!.   So very nearly 2 in a week with Perseverant Pete running a blinder at Chelmsford City finishing 2nd!.  It was the first time I had not gone to Wolverhampton this year and after I had finished shouting him home on the TV I went out to check the mares and hey presto a foal was born!!  a beautiful filly by Dick Turpin, she was up and skipping round the box in no time and first time mum, Mystical Witch,  was brilliant.  Still waiting for the next 5 , all now overdue but I think the cold snap has slowed them down!!

So much to do this time of year with paddock maintenance etc but with the cold nights there is no sign of grass growth just yet.  It was a busy week last week racing and I was so hoping Danzoe would keep the ball rolling,  He ran OK at Chelmsford City under Mr Fallon and we thought we would take our chance at Kempton over the 6f.  He ran probably one of his best races his year despite only finishing 5th, beaten only a length+.  Unlucky not to have been closer.

Disappointment of the week has to be our Harry!!.  I actually went to Chelmsford quietly thinking he would be my dark horse of the week!!  He had worked in Newmarket the previous week with Perseverant Pete and showed a LOT of promise.  However, not to be in the race!!  Very frustrating!! Jumped well enough then dropped himself out of the race, young Eoin Walsh was probably blowing harder than the horse trying to get him going!!  Back to the drawing board!!  Ziggy (Give Us a Belle) ran ok at Wolves.  I am thinking we might head for Chelmsford with him for a change of scenery.  The track there is riding slow but they are going quite fast on it.  Think it might just suit him and he may be able to dominate.

On to this week,  Tuesday looks good…… Humour over 5f??  he likes Wolves, jockeys keep telling me 5f, so lets see what happens.  He has a good draw and with Mr Kirby on board he should take all the beating!!  Also taking Desmond back to try and follow up his win last week, very similar race and again we have a good draw, last week he had a bad draw but was able to overcome that, so this week fingers crossed he can follow up!!  I would also be very surprised if we do not have another foal or two this week!

The Grand Opening and Dog Show for Amy’s Dogtales Daycare centre went really well, a good turnout with the weather being very kind.   I think she raised over £300 for the Dogs Trust and received a lot of interest in her new venture.    check out her website www.dogtalesdaycare.co.uk

Cheltenham was fantastic and with the turf season starting Saturday lots to look forward to.  Sadly no Yarmouth this Easter, and I personally doubt there will be a Yarmouth this year!!  We will miss the early meetings down the road.

I am trying to organise a small Open Day at the yard sometime soon.  I can show off the new foals and also hopefully generate some interest in a couple of nice horses we have for sale/syndication.  Firstly our “Phoebe”  4yo filly by Phoenix Reach out of Bongoali.  She is looking good and we plan to initially aim her at bumpers, with Fakenham in mind soon.  I have had interest in her to syndicate  and am thinking 10% shares.  Please let me know if you are interested and would like more details.  Also our cracking Fast Company colt, he is coming on really well and looks quite a class act in the making!  Mobile for more info  07775 793523 or email christine@christinedunnett.com.

Heres looking forward to a good week.. 😉
