I wont begin again apologising for the delay with my update! I really do not know where the time goes!! Mind you it is always the same the longer the days the more we can find to do!.
Sadly not had a lot to report on the racing front, well not sadly, just no winners! Not disastrous runs but just not got our head in front yet. A couple of our newcomers finished at the back end of the field but to be honest they really did need the experience! Poor Harry jumped out of the stalls to a wall of brightly coloured jockeys on horses and I think wondered what on earth was going on. The good thing was he went in the stalls, jumped out of the stalls and ran across the line, albeit in his own time but I think he enjoyed the experience first time out. We all had a good evening at the races and I know there is a lot of improvement to come from him. The same to be said for Emmessess, thought he would do the same but he jumped really well and showed plenty of early speed, ran a little on his nerves and couldnt see the race through, but again I know he will do better next time.
Desperately need soft ground for Perseverent Pete, lorry headed off to Nottingham last week with “good-soft” ground. Having checked with the clerk of the course before setting off, I was assured it would dry back to no worse than “good” which I was very surprised about with the weather forecast. As suspected the ground changed to firm so another non runner!! To top it all the horsebox caught fire when they arrived at the track, thankfully nothing too serious and a very kind man managed to disconnect the battery before the whole thing ignited!! Lorry brought back on recovery, the horse and staff were taken back to Newmarket and I collected them after returning home from the Yarmouth meeting. Another bad day at the office as they say, However, we live to fight another.
A similar story Saturday when we headed for Leicester with Irish Boy. He is in great form and we were looking forward to a good run. He needs the ground like a road!! We had been concerned they had been watering all week and just as we arrived in Leicester they had a torrential downpour with 5mm in half an hour!! Better luck next time!!
On to the next – 3 runners at Lingfield Thursday evening. Stable mates Dan and Ziggy (Give us a Belle) will take their chance in the 8.30. Both crying out for a run, Danzoe proven on the track, maybe a nice 1-2!! Happydoingnothing will take part in the 6.55, His first two races were his best on the polytrack at lingfield but this time we have stepped him up in trip, fingers crossed! Unfortunately our little filly Ellingham missed out on a run Thursday through elimination. She had to miss her race last week at Yarmouth as she was “mad” in season!! Hoping she will get a run asap.
We are all upbeat here at the yard despite no winners, we can all see the horses working well on the gallops and all feel the winners are just around the corner! Our new horse “Jim” has been working well and I am very excited about him, another to shortly make her debut will be Give it a Whirl – exciting to see her mum’s half brother will be running at Royal Ascot for the Queen on Wednesday. Need this filly of ours to do well as her mum is now in foal to Society Rock.
Royal Ascot week, and what a glorious start to the meeting. You cannot help but just love it!
Im struggling with my photo inserts at the moment so may need to call on a little “technical” help to get a bit more excitement on the web pages!!
