Busy Week!

Well this really has been a busy week with 9 of our 16 horses in training racing.  Satin Waters didn’t disgrace herself first time over hurdles at Market Rasen last Sunday.  Her run wasn’t helped by a faller at the first which almost brought her down and seemed to make her a little apprehensive about the hurdles, which is a shame as she had jumped so confidently when schooling.  We were not too disappointed, she completed the course safely and I am sure once she learns how to breath between hurdles and gets more confident she will be a star.

Leicester Monday with our Graham (Sahkastic), always a nerve racking time with 2yos first time out, especially when you know they have a tendency to “buzz up”.  Leicester was the course, despite the “hot” competition and probably a trip too short, as it is a perfect place to keep young horses cool, calm and collected.  He was brilliant albeit he got a little wound up in the stalls and had to be restrained.  However, despite missing the break by 8-10 lengths he tagged on to the runners and finished his race.  It was a nice introduction, he got tired coming up the hill but the experience will have taught him a lot and hopefully make a man of the boy!!

On to Nottingham for Tuesday, Humour and Ziggy (Give Us A Belle).  Ziggy ran a blinder under young Paddy Pilley to finish 2nd, from out of the handicap.  He gave him a good ride and I think we just came up against a better horse on the day, but it has proved he can be as effective on turf and doesn’t have to just go to Wolves!!  Humour in the 2nd division also ran a good race, maybe also came up against a better horse on the day ??   I am sure it will not be long before we see him in the winners spot again!!  There is slight possibility we may be heading for Newcastle with these 2 runners on Friday, at this stage it is slight!

Wednesday was extra busy!! 5 runners, first stop Lingfield with Ellingham and Perseverent Pete in the 2pm.  Thought this could be Pete’s day.  He ran ok, we know he doesn’t have a turn of foot to finish a race and we are probably going to change tactics slightly next time out.  Ellingham ran ok, she just didn’t seem to get the trip, it was always a danger she wouldn’t  but she ran to the line and didnt give up in the race, a mile next time should suit.

Queenie (Baileys Pursuit ) in the 4.30  almost got there.  A good ride from Adam B, she shouldn’t be too long before she gets her head in front again

On to Kempton, Danzoe having race number 99!!  Adam K was signed off sick so young David Probert took the reins, David rode Dan to win at Kempton back in 2010, a race which I have always regarded as one of Dan’s best wins.  Was hoping for a repeat but sadly not to be.  Everything has to fall right for the old devil nowadays, he wasn’t beaten far so lets just hope next race number 100, things will go perfect!   Born to Fly just did not handle the track, Seb suggested finding a race on the tarmac round the M25!   However, the most important thing about her run was her attitude, she was brilliant and never put a foot wrong.  We will try for Brighton again this week if it goes firm or may try her at Wolves or Lingfield where the surfaces ride faster.

With another 2 2nd places and a 3rd this week,  bringing our total for the year so far to 4 wins, 8 2nds and a 3rd.  The horses all look great and are running well so hopefully we will be rewarded with a few more wins soon.  Our next entries are at Thirsk on Wednesday, if it goes firm there is a possibility we may go with BTF & Queenie, Dan unlikely.  Friday entries are for Newcastle with Humour and Ziggy and also for Brighton with BTF and Harry.  Brighton is looking the most likely at the moment.  if it goes firm it will be perfect for BTF, Harry, not so sure although he galloped very well on our firm grass the other day so he might just go to take his chance.  It is a race he will get in, I think a quirky track may well suit.  He works so well at home and we even schooled him over some poles on Saturday to maybe make him a little “braver” in his racing!! I’ve not given up on him yet, he cannot work like he does at home and be useless!!!!

Next Sunday we should be at Fakenham with Satin Waters, it should be a good day out being Ladies Day for Big C, no doubt see lots of you there, fingers crossed for good weather.

To finish the week this week my mother finally had her hip replacement op.  For those of you who know my mother you can imagine how she has been for the past 18 months, pretty much housebound and chair bound!!  Not a happy bunny!!    Such a relief they have finally been able to operate after various complications kept halting proceedings.  Just have to hope now  no further complications!!  So far so good xx

Quick update on the mares and foals.  All babies and mums doing well,  4 of the 7 mares covered have been scanned in foal, including our College Doll so she will now be making her way home to return to training.

Phew, I think that’s about it for this week xx 🙂
